Coronavirus Update — March 11

Hi, I’m Superintendent
Denise Juneau. As our community bravely faces
this unprecedented health crisis I committed to keeping
our doors open for as long as possible. We have continued to provide
a high quality education for our students
along with critical basic needs including meals,
health care, and after school child care. Our district plays a central
role in the daily operations of our city but the health
and safety of our students and staff must come first
with our district’s first confirmed case of COVID-19
and many unknowns about this disease. I along with our school board
have made the difficult but necessary decision to close
schools starting tomorrow, Thursday March 12th for a
minimum of 14 days. I am proud of the way our
community has come together these past few weeks
and I recognize the hardship that closing
schools will have for our families. I ask that our families
and staff continue to support one another during this time. We will provide more
details including information regarding meals
during this closure very soon. Please continue to reach out
to us with questions or concerns and we will
continue to provide updates throughout this closure. Finally I want to thank our
students families teachers and staff for helping
us keep our doors open as long as possible. Our teachers and staff
bravely join the frontlines of our community’s response
by keeping the important daily work of our district
going for as long as possible. Our students stay committed
to learning and our families were engaged
and held us accountable. Thank you to the entire
Seattle Public School family for helping us keep
our community safe and healthy. More information will be coming
soon. Thank you.
